Our Story

At Back Bone Dog Training, we focus on the whole Dog! We take into consideration the dog's personality, needs, and emotional state.

While we do reject any techniques that cause fear, pain, or intimidation, that doesn’t mean you can’t say NO! As trainers, we believe that the relationship between dog and handler is far more important than specific skills.

We will teach you how to build a strong reinforcement history for things like sit, down, come, drop-it, leave-it, loose-leash walking, etc., and most importantly to us, helping to develop a strong bond with your dog, one built on communication, empathy, and curiosity.

Articles we think are worth checking out:

Ever wonder why we as humans put so much pressure on our furry friends to exist just right? I did, and it had a lot to do with how I viewed animals, not just dogs in general.

Happy Clients

"I met Tabi at a pack walk within the first month of adopting my dog, Archie. He's my first dog and I had a lot to learn. During that first walk, Tabi was eager to help with Archie's reactivity toward other dogs and showed me many tips and tricks that we continued to work on during her weekly pack walks. We went from needing to walk at the back of the group, far from the pack, to walking alongside the other dogs. We then worked with Tabi at the Zoom Room where we attended her obedience classes and learned how to play with other dogs. Now that Tabi has branched off on her own, we've attended all levels of her down-and-stay classes, a recall class, and we've started on advanced obedience. Tabi has also helped with Archie's manners at home with her drop-in visits. With all the classes and pack walks that we've attended, Archie has become much more confident and his reactivity is much more manageable. I highly recommend Tabi and I know Archie does too. She's amazing at meeting the dogs where they are and helping us owners to better understand how to help our dogs succeed!"

"I know finding a good dog trainer can be overwhelming. Are they trustworthy? Do they have my dogs best interest in mind? Will they give them the same level of care I do? All of that matters a lot, at least to me. With that said, in the years I've had my dog, I've never found anyone I trust more than Tabi. She's expertly trained my mini schnauzer since she was a puppy, she's patiently brushed her, she's watched her while I was away, and she's even gone out of her way to dress her up for Halloween as a fun surprise. I may be biased but I think I have the greatest mini schnauzer in the world and Tabi is a major reason why. If all of that didn't make it clear already, I can't recommend Tabi highly enough!"

"Tabi has been caring for my canine kids intermittently since roughly September of 2024. She is easy to work with, easy to get a hold of and a good human all around. I know my dogs are safe, and well tended to when she visits them in the day. Currently, my dogs get two visits in the traditional business day. I'm unsure if my younger dog would make it through the full day with only one potty break. She pays close attention to both dogs when taking them out for a walk- and is sure to share if there's anything unusual. Today my older dog's pace slowed on the second walk of the day, and she made sure to inform me about this. Tabi is a stellar human and gets glowing reviews from everyone in our household- especially the two canine kids."
